  • Supports cybersecurity in France and francophone Africa
  • Engages in regional training and policy partnerships

ANSSI’s national mandate and cybersecurity role

ANSSI is France’s national cybersecurity agency. It was established in 2009 and operates under the prime minister’s office. The agency protects critical information systems across government and vital industries. ANSSI monitors cyber threats and provides detection tools. It helps manage national incident responses through its CERT-FR unit. The agency gives guidance on digital security to public bodies and regulated operators. It sets security standards and validates digital tools. It audits infrastructure and supports secure digital transformation.

ANSSI leads national strategies for data protection and cyber resilience. It promotes secure digital services, including cloud and telecom. The agency provides public awareness and professional training. It also advises on national policy and develops technical recommendations. Its operations focus on defence, telecoms and public service networks. ANSSI’s services aim to increase trust in digital systems and reduce vulnerability.

ANSSI’s regional partnerships and work in Africa

ANSSI does not operate official branches in Africa. However, it plays a role through partnerships and capacity building. It supports the creation and development of national cybersecurity agencies in francophone countries. In Côte d’Ivoire, ANSSI provided support to set up ANSSI-CI. That agency follows the French model and collaborates with local universities and the state. ANSSI joins regional training projects for cybersecurity professionals. It works with African networks and agencies to share knowledge. It supports the design of technical guidelines and national frameworks.

The agency also helps develop digital trust systems in selected countries. These efforts are part of France’s broader cooperation policy with francophone Africa. ANSSI’s work in Africa focuses on training, regulation, and technical advice. It does not manage infrastructure or lead operations outside France. Its role is advisory and institutional. This strengthens cybersecurity capabilities in aligned regions. ANSSI helps improve digital defence without direct control or physical offices.
