    • MetroFibre Networx operates a MEF-certified, high-capacity fibre network across South Africa.
    • The company supports enterprise connectivity, residential broadband, and carrier services with scalable network solutions.

MetroFibre Networx: Carrier ethernet for South African businesses

MetroFibre Networx (Pty) Ltd is a South African telecommunications provider focused on fibre network infrastructure. The company delivers business and residential broadband over a high-capacity, open-access fibre network. It was founded in 2010 and is headquartered in Centurion, Gauteng. MetroFibre builds, owns, and operates its own infrastructure. It serves carriers, ISPs, enterprises, and homeowners.

The firm’s network is fully compliant with Carrier Ethernet 2.0 and 3.0 standards. It connects over 60 data centres, 350 business parks, and thousands of homes. Its MEF certification confirms its service quality and international compatibility. The network enables IP transit, Layer 2 point-to-point services, voice, cloud connectivity, and secure data centre interconnect.

MetroFibre also offers fibre-to-the-business (FTTB) and fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) services. These are managed with committed SLA levels and performance monitoring. MetroFibre’s open-access approach lets multiple ISPs offer services on its fibre, giving customers more choice and price options.

According to its leadership, the firm’s footprint now reaches Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, and other economic hubs. “We have launched a 100 km business fibre ring in Cape Town, targeting over 4 000 companies in major commercial zones,” said CEO Jan-Jan Bezuidenhout in a LinkedIn post.

MetroFibre Networx: Infrastructure and industry adaptation

South Africa’s fibre market continues to expand. However, cost, rollout delays, and regional inequality remain issues. MetroFibre is addressing these by investing in dense urban infrastructure and connecting underserved areas. Its DWDM upgrades have pushed speeds to 100 Gbps, increasing capacity for cloud and real-time applications.

The industry now demands automation and software-defined networking. MetroFibre is integrating intelligent monitoring, security enforcement, and virtualisation into its backbone. The goal is to enable enterprise clients to scale securely and avoid downtime.

MetroFibre’s investors include AIIM and STOA, which have helped fund long-term infrastructure development. The firm also supports job creation and skills development within the ICT sector. Its network is maintained by trained CECP-certified engineers, supporting consistent service levels under global benchmarks.
