  • Hormuud Telecom partners with Save the Children Somalia to promote inclusive digital education and access.
  • Initiative expands the operator’s social footprint amid sectoral growth and infrastructure challenges.

Hormuud Telecom supports education through strategic partnership

Hormuud Telecom, Somalia’s largest telecommunications company, has launched a digital inclusion programme in partnership with Save the Children Somalia. The initiative aims to provide internet access, ICT equipment, and digital skills training to underserved schools across the country. It is part of a broader corporate social responsibility drive to ensure Somalia’s youth are not left behind as digital connectivity expands.

The partnership was formalised with an agreement to equip schools in vulnerable areas with internet access and computer labs, enabling children to access online educational resources. According to Hormuud, this is a key step in reducing the “digital divide” that prevents many Somali children from benefiting fully from modern learning tools. The company noted this move complements its long-term vision to build a more inclusive and digitally connected Somali society.

Hormuud Telecom: expanding services amid sector-wide challenges

Established in 2002, Hormuud Telecom has played a leading role in transforming Somalia’s telecom sector, which has grown rapidly despite persistent challenges, including unstable infrastructure and limited rural coverage. The firm offers mobile money services, fibre and 4G internet, and affordable smartphone access. It is recognised for supporting economic growth by enabling digital financial inclusion.

Nevertheless, Somalia’s telecom industry continues to face infrastructure shortfalls and limited regulatory cohesion. Companies like Hormuud are investing in innovation to overcome these hurdles. Recent efforts include expanding mobile money interoperability and extending rural mobile network coverage. This latest education-focused partnership underscores Hormuud’s commitment not only to commercial growth but also to societal impact.
