Haupt Online (Pty) Ltd: Speedsurf Microwave ISP from Haupt Computers

Haupt Computers delivers a comprehensive range of IT services—from network design and installation, wireless and wired setups, software and hardware installation, to desktop and laptop repairs, remote support and managed data backups. This established foundation gives Haupt Online the technical backbone to deploy agile connectivity services.

Haupt Online (Pty) Ltd: Addressing infrastructure challenges in KZN

South Africa’s telecommunications industry faces persistent challenges—rural areas and some urban zones in KwaZulu-Natal often suffer from limited fibre penetration. Many communities rely on fixed wireless or satellite services that may be slow or costly.

In this context, Haupt Online’s approach of deploying a microwave network—branded as Speedsurf—offers a resilient alternative. Microwave links can be deployed more swiftly than fibre, particularly in rugged or underserved areas, bringing quicker restoration of service and lower infrastructure cost.

Industry Innovations Amid Access Gaps

The South African ISP landscape is evolving with the emergence of fixed-wireless access (FWA) and TV white-space (TVWS) technologies, as well as growth in community networks and local-loop unbundling. Microwave remains a compelling choice for mid-range rural or peri-urban connectivity, complementing fibre where laying cables is impractical.

Haupt Online’s model aligns with this trend. By leveraging its sister-company heritage in IT support and implementing microwave overlays alongside fibre where available, the company enables business continuity and broadband access in KZN with operational agility.
