  • Comium has significantly transformed the Gambian telecommunications market with its innovative approach and expansion efforts, including the launch of its ComCach eWallet and nationwide connectivity plans.
  • The company’s dedication to enhancing customer experience and network coverage is evident through its increasing number of outlets and investments in cutting-edge technology.
  • Comium remains focused on delivering affordable, high-quality services and addressing evolving market demands.

Comium has made a huge impact on The Gambia’s telecommunication sectors by expanding its network and offering innovative services like the ComCach eWallet. The company’s strategic focus on enhancing connectivity and customer experience, alongside substantial investments in advanced technology, underscores its commitment to transforming the market. Also, Comium continues to drive progress and deliver affordable, high-quality services across the country.

A commitment to growth and connectivity

We consider ourselves as Gambian as can be because we continually bring ourselves and the people closer through better, transparent, and fair business practices.

Marwan Khoury, Comium’s CEO

Marwan Khoury, Comium’s CEO, underscores the company’s commitment to The Gambia as a strategic entry point into the broader African market. “We consider ourselves as Gambian as can be,” Khoury says, “because we continually bring ourselves and the people closer through better, transparent, and fair business practices.” This dedication has won the company significant goodwill, evidenced by positive social media testimonials from satisfied customers.

Comium’s ambitious expansion plans are a testament to its commitment to providing comprehensive connectivity across the country. According to Khoury, the company’s growth strategy aligns with the vision set by Monty Holding’s Chairman, Mr. Mountasser Hachem, who has pledged nationwide internet coverage through Comium’s network. The company already operates 18 outlets and showrooms, with plans to establish even more, including locations at the airport.

Innovations and challenges in the telecommunication landscape

The demand for Comium services has surged, and we are working hard to extend our coverage to meet this demand.

Sarjo Khan, Comium’s commercial director

A significant development in Comium’s portfolio is the launch of the Comium eWallet, branded as ComCach. This platform enables customers to perform financial transactions both through GSM and non-GSM services from the comfort of their homes. This move reflects a broader industry trend toward digital distribution, reducing reliance on physical dealer networks.

The company has heavily invested in enhancing its network infrastructure, utilising Gamtel fiber optics and microwave technology to ensure optimal performance. Comium also boasts The Gambia’s first 5G-ready native cloud, positioning it advantageously for future technological advancements.Despite these advancements, the telecommunications industry faces significant challenges. Rising equipment and operational costs are squeesing profit margins, while regulatory and stakeholder pressures demand lower prices. This landscape requires operators like Comium to explore diverse strategies and vertical segments, including fintech and digital transformation, to remain competitive.

Sarjo Khan, Comium’s Commercial Director, highlights the company’s efforts to expand network coverage, particularly in rural areas. “The demand for Comium services has surged, and we are working hard to extend our coverage to meet this demand,” Khan says. The company plans to introduce additional value-added services, such as the MyComium app and the Lebalma credit borrowing service, to further enhance customer experience.

About Comium

In recent years, Comium has redefined the telecommunications landscape in The Gambia, emerging as a dynamic force that is making connectivity more accessible and affordable. A walk into any Comium outlet reveals a bustling scene where people eagerly queue to purchase credits or obtain SIM cards, reflecting the company’s growing influence in the market.
