    • Starting in 2020, Cameroon’s Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Minette Libom Li Likeng, officially handed over three concession agreements delivered by the government to CAMTEL.
    • CAMTEL is the first nationwide communications network that will be available to the public through 2G, 3G and 4G technologies.
    • Cameroon is strengthening CAMTEL’s position in the development of the country’s IT and telecommunications sector.

CAMTEL is the result of the merger of two structures, the former Telecommunications Bureau of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and the former INTELCAM. CAMTEL then supports cellular and domestic landlines, respectively, while supporting international telecommunications.

CAMTEL became the fourth largest mobile operator in Cameroon

By awarding the funding, Cameroon is strengthening CAMTEL’s position in the development of the country’s IT and telecommunications sector. Investment plans among operators in the coming years will significantly boost mobile broadband services in rural areas of the country, many of which are underserved by fixed-line infrastructure. This initiative aims to enable CAMTEL to increase productivity and provide quality services at affordable prices, in line with the prescription of the Head of State for developing the digital economy.

In accordance with Decree No. 2019/264 of 28 May 2019 approving CAMTEL’s statutes, its purpose is to own, operate and provide telecommunications infrastructure and services within the framework of licenses granted to it by the competent authorities for this purpose.

More specifically, CAMTEL’s responsibilities are to: research, install, operate and maintain any systems required to provide telecommunications services throughout the country and to connect local, national or foreign networks; To carry out commercial, industrial, movable, real estate and financial transactions directly or indirectly related to or likely to contribute to the development of the above services.

“Our strength is that we always stand in a competitive environment. Our goal is always the same: to provide high value-added services to Cameroonians!”

Judith YAH SUNDAY, director general of CAMTEL
