    Role and operations of Caixa Económica de Cabo Verde

    Caixa Económica de Cabo Verde is a state‑owned bank, established in May 1928. It became autonomous in 1985 and a limited company in 1993. The bank offers savings accounts, deposits, personal loans and mortgage products. It provides microfinance, consumer credit, and youth savings solutions. Caixa supports both retail and small business clients. It has digital services including mobile banking and an app.

    The bank promotes financial education across communities. Caixa issues debit and credit cards. It also manages national remittance services. The institution works under national financial regulation and risk management. It aims to support sustainable economic development in Cape Verde.

    Infrastructure, governance and social impact

    Caixa runs branches in Praia, Mindelo, Assomada, Sal Rei, Espargos and other islands. It expanded services to underserved areas by opening rural agencies. The bank holds national certifications in quality and information security under ISO standards. It received a European quality management award in mid‑2025. Caixa’s board oversees transparent governance and statistical reporting. It distributes dividends to the state in line with performance.

    The bank supports national education via school programmes and sponsored contests. Its environmental and social responsibility includes programmes for youth empowerment. Caixa also offers microcredit to rural entrepreneurs and women‑led ventures. It balances digital growth with local inclusion and seeks to promote ethics in banking practices.
