  • On January 28, 1957, the Commercial Bank of Angola was founded in Luanda, where it has its headquarters.
  • The Commercial Bank of Angola gave the origins to the popular Angolan bank, which mainly acted as a bank to absorb personal savings.

Banco Comercial de Angola (BCA) was established in 1996 during a pivotal time in Angola’s history. Emerging from the shadows of a prolonged civil conflict, the bank aimed to provide essential financial services that would support economic growth and development in the nation. With a vision of fostering stability and prosperity, BCA positioned itself as a key player in the Angolan banking sector.

The bank’s development was clearly in line with the agricultural, commercial and industrial development of the region in which it was located, successfully capturing savings and continuous profits in areas where financial activity was underdeveloped.

Diverse offerings for all

From its inception, BCA has offered a comprehensive range of banking products tailored to meet the needs of both individuals and businesses. Services include personal accounts, loans, credit facilities, and investment solutions. The bank’s commitment to financial inclusion is evident in its efforts to reach underserved communities, ensuring that all Angolans have access to vital banking services.

Pioneering technology

BCA has consistently embraced innovation to enhance customer experience. In 2000, it became the first bank in Angola to introduce ATM services, significantly improving accessibility for clients. This move marked a turning point in the modernisation of Angolan banking. As technology evolved, BCA continued to invest in digital banking solutions, allowing customers to conduct transactions conveniently through mobile apps and online platforms.

Community engagement

Beyond its commercial activities, Banco Comercial de Angola believes in social responsibility. The bank actively engages in community development initiatives, promoting education, health, and environmental sustainability projects. Through partnerships with various organisations, BCA seeks to create a positive impact on Angolan society.

Looking ahead

Today, Banco Comercial de Angola stands as one of the leading banks in the country, with a solid reputation for reliability and innovation. Committed to empowering individuals and businesses, BCA continues to drive financial growth in Angola, contributing to the overall prosperity of the nation. As it looks to the future, the bank remains dedicated to evolving alongside the dynamic landscape of African banking.

About Banco Comercial de Angola

Banco Comercial Angola was established in Lisbon on 14 June 1956, by deed drawn up in the notes of Pedro Augusto dos Santos Gomes, by order of the Council of Ministers of 7 February 1956.

With the independence of Angola in 1975 and the subsequent nationalisation of the banking and insurance sectors (Decree 129/75 of 7 October and Decree 69/76 of 5 November), Banco Comercial Angola gave the origins of the most popular Angolan bank, acting mainly as a bank for the absorption of individual savings.
