  • Azam Media operates Azam TV, a leading pay-TV provider reaching 1.4 million homes with sports, movies, news and local content.
  • With exclusive Tanzania Premier League rights and multi-channel offerings, the company leads regional pay-TV innovation.

Azam Media Limited offers across East Africa’s media landscape

Azam Media Limited is a major Tanzanian media house best known for its Azam TV satellite pay‑TV service launched in 2013 by the Bakhresa Group. Now serving 1.4 million homes, the platform offers diverse content — from Swahili-language drama and news to international movies and sports — including dedicated Azam-branded channels such as Azam One, Azam Two, Sinema Zetu, and Azam Sports.

Through strategic partnerships like Eutelsat, Azam Media continues to expand distribution via DTH and streaming platforms across Tanzania and neighbouring East African countries.

Azam Media Limited is a force in regional media expansion

As the media landscape in East Africa grows, industry players face challenges such as high infrastructure costs, content localisation demands, and balancing affordability with quality broadcast experience. Azam Media addresses these by combining strong local branding, affordable packages, and significant sports content — notably securing exclusive rights to the Tanzania Mainland Premier League in a multi-billion-shilling, decade-long deal. The company’s ecosystem builds trust and recognition through Swahili programming and family-friendly offerings, while leveraging regional distribution networks leveraged by its parent conglomerate.

Azam Media’s success reflects broader regional innovation in media: more viewers are shifting toward satellite and digital platforms, and home-produced content is gaining traction for cultural resonance and cost-efficiency. Azam’s mix of sports rights, multi-lingual channels, and accessible pricing positions it at the forefront of this trend.
