• Innovative Connectivity: AdNotes leverages TV White Space (TVWS) technology to provide internet access in underserved areas.

• Community Impact: Through initiatives like the WiFi Ambassador Program, AdNotes empowers local entrepreneurs and enhances digital inclusion.

AdNotes: Pioneering Affordable Connectivity

Established in 2011, AdNotes (Pty) Ltd is a South African broadband technology solutions provider committed to delivering affordable internet services. Licensed by the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) and certified by the Film and Publication Board (FPB), AdNotes offers wireless and fibre internet solutions across KwaZulu-Natal and beyond. Their services cater to homes, businesses, and rural communities, ensuring reliable connectivity even in remote areas.

A notable innovation by AdNotes is their adoption of TV White Space (TVWS) technology. This approach utilises unused television broadcast frequencies to deliver broadband internet over long distances, making it ideal for rural and underserved regions. TVWS has proven effective in providing internet access to schools and communities, as demonstrated by trials in the Western Cape and Limpopo, where broadband services were successfully delivered to 10 schools at speeds up to 12 Mbps across a 6.5 km radius without interference.

Empowering Communities Through Innovation

AdNotes’ commitment to community empowerment is evident in their WiFi Ambassador Program. This initiative trains local entrepreneurs to become internet service providers in their communities, fostering economic growth and digital literacy. By decentralising internet access, AdNotes not only expands connectivity but also creates job opportunities and promotes local development .

Despite their successes, AdNotes faces challenges typical of the broadband industry in South Africa, including infrastructure costs and regulatory hurdles. However, their innovative use of TVWS technology and community-focused initiatives position them as a leader in bridging the digital divide. Looking ahead, AdNotes aims to expand their reach and continue their mission of providing affordable and reliable internet services, contributing to South Africa’s digital transformation.
