The warehouse automation solution will automate the picking and packing of items at a high enough level to distinguish between different opacities, shapes, and sizes.

To achieve this goal, the partners integrate SIMATIC Robot Pick AI, Siemens’ learning-based vision software, with Universal Robots’ UR20 robot, which is designed for heavy lifting and carrying tasks.

Ignacio Moreno, Siemens’ business development manager said, “We are excited to collaborate with Universal Robots and Zivid to introduce a game-changing solution for intra-logistics fulfillment.”

Zivid’s 3D sensor will increase its imaging capabilities to include transparent and translucent objects.

“By harnessing the power of advanced vision technology and industry-leading collaborative robotics, the SIMATIC Robot Pick AI can bring effortless picking to any environment,” he said.

According to Daniel Friedman, UR’s global director, “The collaboration with Siemens and Zivid signals our continued push into connecting our robot platform to AI technologies and is further testament to our dedication to delivering automation for anyone, anywhere.”

The solution will be presented in-depth for the first time in a webinar hosted by the trio on April 4.
