What happened: Amazon expands UK apprenticeship programme

Amazon has announced the creation of over 1,000 new apprenticeships across the UK in 2025. The programme offers more than 40 different schemes, including data science, cyber security, HR, marketing, engineering, health and safety, and warehouse operations. Notably, the majority of courses now incorporate generative AI training. Additionally, Amazon is launching new programmes in creative industries production, data centre operations, and facilities operations. These apprenticeships are available across various Amazon businesses, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Prime Video, and Amazon Devices and Services. The company is recruiting for more than 40 different schemes; from data science and cyber security, to marketing and engineering. More than half of the roles are open to external candidates, combining paid work with classroom education. Roles include more than 500 higher-level apprenticeships for software development, automation engineering, and operations.

    Why it’s important

This expansion reflects Amazon’s commitment to developing a skilled workforce in the UK. By offering apprenticeships in emerging fields like data science and cyber security, the company addresses the growing demand for expertise in these areas. The inclusion of generative AI training aligns with current technological advancements, ensuring participants gain relevant skills. Furthermore, the launch of new programmes in creative industries production and data centre operations indicates Amazon’s recognition of the evolving job market and the need to prepare individuals for diverse roles. Overall, these initiatives contribute to workforce development and provide valuable opportunities for individuals seeking to enter or advance in these dynamic fields.
