  • ITU’s WRS-24 seminar provides training on latest radio spectrum regulations for terrestrial and space services.
  • Over 1,500 participants join to explore global spectrum management innovations and trends.

What happened: ITU’s WRS-24 equips participants with latest spectrum tools

The ITU World Radiocommunication Seminar (WRS-24), held from 2 to 6 December in Geneva, Switzerland, gathered over 1,562 participants for discussions and training on global radio spectrum management. Attendees, including regulators, engineers, and telecom experts, explored the latest updates to the ITU Radio Regulations, a critical framework for coordinating radio frequencies worldwide.

The seminar featured hands-on workshops covering ITU tools, databases, and notification procedures for frequency allocation and use. Alongside, the Future Radio Exhibition showcased advancements in radiocommunication technologies, drawing interest from the public. Key topics included capacity building and innovations aimed at ensuring equitable access to spectrum resources globally, while preparing for the next World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-27).

Why it’s important

With the rapid expansion of radiocommunication applications, effective spectrum management is crucial for enabling global connectivity, particularly in underserved regions. The updated ITU Radio Regulations provide essential guidance for managing the increasingly scarce spectrum resources, ensuring efficiency and equitable access across nations.

The WRS-24 seminar underscores ITU’s commitment to fostering international collaboration and innovation in spectrum management. By equipping participants with the necessary technical and regulatory tools, the seminar strengthens global radiocommunication systems and prepares stakeholders for upcoming challenges, including the 2027 World Radiocommunication Conference. Events like WRS-24 highlight the importance of adapting regulatory frameworks to meet the growing demands of space and terrestrial communication networks.
