Payment partnership fuels Ribbon’s UK expansion

  • Ribbon’s payment partnership with Tribe Payments has enabled its UK expansion, offering digital financial services like multi-currency accounts and instant transfers.
  • The collaboration integrates advanced fraud prevention tools and carbon-neutral operations, aiming to enhance financial inclusivity and sustainability for UK users.

What happened: Ribbon teams up with Tribe Payments for UK launch

Ribbon, a Gibraltar-based digital financial platform, has successfully expanded into the UK by forming a strategic payment partnership with Tribe Payments, a specialist in payment infrastructure and processing. Ribbon, launched in 2020 by Ashesh Jani and Suchit Punnose, is a carbon-neutral super-app offering personal and business users multi-currency accounts, hyper-personalised financial tools, and instant transfers to India and beyond.

This partnership allows Ribbon to utilise Tribe Payments’ advanced issuer processing services and its Risk Monitor platform, designed to ensure real-time transaction oversight and compliance with anti-money laundering (AML) requirements for electronic money institution (EMI) license holders. The collaboration also integrates Tribe’s 3D Secure authentication, providing Ribbon with robust fraud prevention and enhanced customer trust for online transactions. The UK launch follows Ribbon’s earlier success in Gibraltar and marks a significant milestone in its global expansion strategy.

Why this is important

The payment partnership between Ribbon and Tribe Payments underlines the critical role of innovative collaborations in transforming financial services for niche markets like the non-resident Indian diaspora in the UK. Traditional remittance channels often come with high fees and slow processing times, whereas Ribbon’s services, powered by Tribe’s infrastructure, offer speed, security, and cost efficiency.

This expansion is also a step forward in combining financial technology with sustainability. Ribbon’s commitment to carbon-neutral operations, supported by tools that allow users to track their carbon footprints, aligns with evolving consumer expectations for eco-conscious services. In a world where cross-border transactions are a lifeline for many families, Ribbon’s approach sets a compelling example of how financial inclusivity and environmental responsibility can coexist, potentially reshaping the remittance market.
