  • CEDESURK fosters scientific documentation and training in the DRC.
  • Established in 2001, CEDESURK supports 50 higher education institutions.

The Centre de Documentation de l’Enseignement Supérieur, Universitaire et de la Recherche à Kinshasa (CEDESURK) is a vital non-profit organisation dedicated to enhancing scientific and technical documentation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Founded on 28 February 2001, CEDESURK has evolved significantly, now representing 50 higher education institutions.

Growth and partnerships

CEDESURK emerged from a collaboration between Congolese educational institutions and Belgian development partners, including WBI (Wallonie-Bruxelles International) and ARES. Over the past 23 years, it has expanded its reach and influence, adapting to the changing needs of academia and research in the DRC. The Centre operates from premises provided by the CRGM, reinforcing its commitment to accessibility and support for its members.

Governance and structure

The governance structure of CEDESURK includes a General Assembly, which is the supreme authority composed of member institutions. The Executive Board, comprising 11 members, oversees daily operations and strategic direction. This dual structure ensures effective management and responsiveness to the needs of its members. The General Director, supported by a dedicated team, manages daily affairs, ensuring that CEDESURK meets its objectives efficiently.

“The Democratic Republic of Congo has made significant strides in increasing school enrollment. Free primary education is becoming a reality, enabling more than 4.5 million children to join school.”

USAID report on education in the DRC

CEDESURK continues to evolve, ensuring that it meets the demands of modern education and research, making significant contributions to the scientific landscape in the DRC.
