    National Oil Company of Malawi: Making Malawi oil and gas secure

    The National Oil Company of Malawi (NOCMA) plays a pivotal role in ensuring the stability and security of liquid fuel and gas products within the country. By overseeing the country’s fuel reserves and facilitating industry competition, NOCMA contributes to a reliable and efficient supply chain of fuel and gas products. Additionally, the company’s focus on promoting oil and gas exploration activities underscores its commitment to enhancing energy security and supporting economic growth.

    NOCMA conducts safety awareness campaign

    In an effort to promote community safety, the NOCMA has launched safety awareness initiatives, reaching out to 100,000 individuals residing near its depots and rail operations.

    The goal of these campaigns as reducing incidents related to fuel and rail operations.

    Micklas Reuben, NOCMA’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer, highlighted the goal of these campaigns as reducing incidents related to fuel and rail operations. Targeting residents and businesses in proximity to NOCMA facilities and railways, the awareness programs aim to educate on safe practices.

    NOCMA expressed concerns during the campaigns about individuals residing near its premises and engaging in illegal fuel activities, emphasising the risk posed to citizens and company equipment.

    By sensitising residents and businesses on safe practices near fuel and rail operations, NOCMA is not only safeguarding the well-being of individuals within these communities but also protecting the company’s infrastructure and assets. Additionally, raising awareness about the dangers of illegal fuel activities helps to mitigate potential risks and ensure the overall safety and security of all citizens.

    Malawi and Mozambique inked a bilateral agreement on petroleum

    In a significant milestone for regional cooperation, Malawi and Mozambique have signed a historic bilateral agreement focusing on petroleum and related products. This groundbreaking development, which took place on August, 2024, in Maputo, is set to transform Malawi’s energy sector, promising more accessible electricity and reduced fuel costs for its citizens.

    The agreement was facilitated by the presidents of both nations, Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi and Filipe Nyusi of Mozambique, signifying a new era of collaboration and mutual support. The deal was officially sealed by Malawi’s Energy Minister, Ibrahim Matola, and his Mozambican counterpart, marking a significant step towards a more energy-secure future for Malawi.

    Meanwhile NOCMA CEO, Clement Kanyama, thanked HE President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera for his vision and guiding all the entities working in this area, including NOCMA to benefit from the cooperation and collaboration between Malawi and Mozambique.

    About NOCMA

    National Oil Company of Malawi, wholly owned by the Government of Malawi. Formed in line with the National Energy Policy of January 2003, NOCMA was registered on December 2010 under the companies Act of 1984.

    With thire head office in Kang`ombe House in City Centre in Malawi’s capital Lilongwe, they have an office at Mwanza border post and have operations through an agent at Songwe border to handle incoming fuel tankers.

    As a government-owned company, they are mandated to manage the country’s Stratergic Fuel Reserve Facilities (SFRs), promote competition in the oil and gas industry and to promote oil and gas exploration activities to ensure stability and security of supply of liquid fuel and gas products.
