DAL Group: Making Sudan a better place to live

  • DAL Group is the largest and most diversified conglomerate in Sudan.
  • DAL Group operates across various business sectors, including food & beverages, agriculture, earthmoving, real estate, energy, mining, automotive, healthcare, and education, with each business leading in its respective field.

History of DAL

The DAL Group traces its origins to the engineering firm Sayer & Colley, established in 1951 by two British partners during Sudan’s Anglo-Egyptian rule. Sayer & Colley later secured Caterpillar’s franchise for the country. In 1966, ten years after Sudan gained independence, Caterpillar transferred the franchise to the Sudanese Tractor Company (SUTRAC), owned by Daoud Abdellatif, with Sayer & Colley retaining a minority stake. Both companies were nationalised in 1970 and then de-nationalised in 1971, though the government retained a minority share in each.

Osama Daoud Abdellatif, the eldest son of Daoud Abdellatif, joined SUTRAC in 1975 and became Sales Manager in 1978. After the government’s share was bought out, he persuaded his father to purchase Sayer & Colley’s share in 1979, becoming CEO of SUTRAC the same year when his father fell ill. Osama renamed the company DAL Engineering, using his father’s initials. DAL Agriculture was soon established, eventually leading to the formation of the DAL Group. Several other companies under the DAL name have since been created.

We have the privilege of dealing with a range of businesses and consumers across many sectors. We touch the lives of people every day through our products and services, and as much as we believe that is a privilege, we realise the great responsibility that comes with it.
