    GECAMINES deputy CEO advocates mining reform at Mineral-X

    On 13 June 2024, Jack Masangu, Deputy CEO of Finance and Joint Ventures at Gécamines SA, delivered a key address at the Mineral-X Symposium held at Stanford University. His speech focused on the technological advancements needed to enhance the supply of critical minerals and the environmental and human challenges associated with this mission.

    At the prestigious Mineral-X Symposium on 13 June 2024, Gécamines SA’s Deputy CEO, Jack Masangu, took the stage to discuss the pivotal role of critical minerals in the global energy transition. Speaking to an audience of over 250 high-level participants, including government officials, mining industry leaders, and clean tech investors, Masangu emphasised the importance of reforming local mining practices in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). He highlighted Gécamines’ commitment to modernising supply chains and managing the surging demand for critical minerals essential for clean energy technologies.

    Masangu also underscored the leadership of President Félix Tshisekedi in positioning the DRC as a key destination for mineral exploration, manufacturing, and trade. He pointed out that transforming the Congolese mining sector into a “force positive for the people of the DRC” is central to Gécamines’ mission. The company aims to play a significant role in the global energy transition and contribute to reducing carbon emissions, while ensuring that economic opportunities do not compromise human dignity.
