    • Eritel has undergone a major transformation and upgrade, moving from an analog to a modern digital telecommunications network.
    • Eritel is dedicated to the advancement of technology and customer satisfaction, and aims to lead telecommunications in Africa with a commitment to green technology.

Eritel is the only telecommunications provider in Eritrea. It has moved from offering just basic phone services to becoming a top provider of digital communications. The company offers a wide range of services and uses a modern digital network to improve connectivity in major cities. Eritel is dedicated to technological advancement and aims to be a leader in providing high-quality telecommunications solutions across Africa.

    Eritel’s strategic growth

Eritrea telecommunications is the only information technology and telecommunications provider in the state of Eritrea, heralded as the pride of the Horn of Africa. Since its inception after independence, Eritel has grown from a simple telephone service provider to a comprehensive digital and telecommunications leader serving over 600,000 customers.

Originally known as telecommunications services of Eritrea (TSE), the company was restructured in October 2003 to include a broader range of services such as fixed telephony, mobile telephony and Internet services.

Eritrea’s telecommunications infrastructure, concentrated mainly in Asmara, remains underdeveloped. While landlines are largely confined to the capital, mobile phone use is increasing throughout the country. To improve this system, the government is actively seeking international bids for improvements.

Most notably, on April 13, 2006, Eritrea secured a $23 million soft loan from China to upgrade its communications infrastructure. By 2023, mobile phone connectivity will have reached all major cities except Assab.

Eritel embarked on its Phase 1 infrastructure development program in 2003 with the aim of migrating the entire telecommunications infrastructure from an analog to a digital platform, thereby establishing a modern and scalable backbone infrastructure system.

The ongoing Phase 2 of the infrastructure and services development program, launched in 2013, aims to further improve the capacity and quality of telecommunications services, with a particular focus on expanding network coverage in rural areas and upgrading to a predominantly fiber-based network.

Today, Eritel operates a complete end-to-end fiber core network in the cities of Asmara and Massawa, with plans to extend these upgrades to all major cities in the near future. Committed to being at the forefront of technological advancement, Eritel continues to integrate cutting-edge green technology, paving the way for a digitally connected and environmentally conscious Eritrea.

    About Eritrea telecommunications

Eritel aims to be a leader in telecommunications and Internet services across Africa, emphasizing exceptional customer satisfaction. With a mission to design and deliver tailored solutions for diverse customer needs, Eritel places customer priorities at the forefront of its operations. The company values leadership, focusing on shaping a better future for Eritrea, and believes in collaboration, integrity, accountability, passion, and a relentless commitment to excellence.
