    • The company emphasises its commitment to cybersecurity and technological advancements to meet the growing demands driven by AI developments.
    • Despite the challenges posed by rapid technological changes, AIMS remains dedicated to innovation and sustainability, positioning itself as a leader in the data centre industry.

In an exclusive interview with Kok Kien Chong, the presales support & project management specialist of AIMS Data Centre Thailand, BTW Media delves into the company’s ambitious vision for the next five years, technological advancements, commitment to cybersecurity, sustainability initiatives, and the evolving challenges in the data centre industry.

AIMS Data Centre, established nearly 30 years ago in Malaysia, has embarked on a significant expansion journey, now extending its footprint into Thailand. Kok Kien Chong shared insights into the company’s vision for the next five years, emphasising a robust growth trajectory. “We foresee tremendous expansion and improvement in the data centre business. Thailand, with its vast potential, will see AIMS increasing its data centre capacity, both vertically and potentially with standalone hyperscalers,” stated Chong.

AIMS strives to be the first to support higher capacities per rack

Discussing technological advancements, Chong highlighted the industry’s competitive nature. “While all data centres aim to provide high accommodation of power and cooling, AIMS strives to be the first to support higher capacities per rack,” he explained. The company’s focus is on meeting the escalating demands, which have seen requirements surge from 2-5 kilowatts per rack to as high as 120 kilowatts.

Cybersecurity remains a cornerstone of AIMS Data Centre’s operations. Chong emphasised the importance of both physical and cyber security, noting that the company maintains strict control over access and does not interfere with client connectivity. “Our dedicated teams ensure rigorous security measures, safeguarding data integrity and privacy,” he affirmed.

There is a huge market for renewable energy in Thailand

AIMS Data Centre is also committed to sustainability and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) practices. “In Thailand, our focus is on increasing the use of renewable energy, although this requires substantial government support and market adjustments,” Chong said. He highlighted the company’s aspirations to partner with renewable energy providers, mirroring initiatives seen in Malaysia, such as the YTL Power and Nvidia collaboration for green energy.

The rapid growth of AI are challenges but also opportunities

The AI industry’s pace, with technologies like Nvidia’s H200, presents a constant need for us to scale our capacities quickly and efficiently.
