    USM and ams OSRAM launch innovative industry-academia programme

    • Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and ams OSRAM successfully organised the “3rd School of Physics & ams OSRAM Industry in the Classroom” programme.
    • The programme aims to educate postgraduates on semiconductor advancements through guest lectures by ams OSRAM engineers.
    • As explained by the coordinator of the event, Ts. Dr. Wan Maryam Wan Ahmad Kamil, “This initiative was developed with ams OSRAM to offer added value to the postgraduates.”

    Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and ams OSRAM have unveiled their latest endeavour, the 3rd School of Physics & ams OSRAM Industry in the Classroom” programme.

    Tailored for postgraduate students specialising in applied and engineering physics, as well as those undertaking master’s degrees in solid-state physics courses, this initiative aims to revolutionise education in semiconductor epitaxy techniques and device development.

    Pioneering partnership

    Led by esteemed ams OSRAM doctorate engineers, the programme kicked off at the USM School of Physics with an engaging session by Dr. David Lacey, director of research and development (R&D) at ams OSRAM. Over 30 emerging scholars eagerly participated, ready to delve into the cutting-edge lectures and discussions that lay ahead.

    Expert-led exploration

    Throughout the semester, students will be treated to a series of lectures delivered by ams OSRAM experts such as Dr. Fabian Kopp, Dr. Abdelkarim Kahouli, and Dr. Azharul Ariff Kamarulzaman.

    Topics will span the properties and MOCVD growth of III-Nitrides, LED design and production, and the optimisation of growth to enhance LED efficiency.

    Empowering the next generation

    Dr. Wan Maryam Wan Ahmad Kamil, the event coordinator, expressed her excitement about the collaboration, emphasising its potential to elevate postgraduates into the forefront of the semiconductor industry while fostering academic excellence.

    Lacey echoed this sentiment, expressing his satisfaction with the programme’s outcomes and his eagerness to cultivate a lasting partnership between ams OSRAM and the school of physics.

    He emphasised the significance of bridging theory with practice, stating, “With this programme, delivered by our R&D experts, we introduce students to the application of physics, materials science, and engineering to real-world semiconductor products.”
