NTT SmartConnect Corporation and Japan Internet Xing Co., Ltd. announced the inauguration of an Internet Exchange Point (IXP) at NTT SmartConnect’s Fukuoka Tenjin Data Center, effective April 2024.

NTT SmartConnect, headquartered in Osaka City, Osaka, led by President Takafumi Makiuchi, and Japan Internet Xing Co., Ltd. (JPIX), headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, under the leadership of President & CEO Akihiro Tsuru, have joined forces to establish this IX service connection point in Fukuoka.
The Fukuoka Tenjin Data Center, operated by NTT SmartConnect, has been offering colocation and optical cabling services in the Tenjin area since September 2023. This move aligns with the increasing demand for interconnection services in western Japan. Notably, Fukuoka Tenjin DC is interconnected with NTT Hakata Building West Wing and QTnet Fukuoka Data Center 3 (QD3) via optical fiber, ensuring reliable and secure Internet interconnection.

JPIX has been providing IX services in Fukuoka, the heart of the Kyushu region, since 2022. The expansion of the IX service access point at Fukuoka Tenjin DC is aimed at accommodating the anticipated growth in interconnection demand in the Fukuoka area, driven by future enhancements in optical fiber infrastructure. This expansion is expected to enhance user convenience and facilitate the decentralization of Internet traffic, thereby reducing latency.
NTT SmartConnect and JPIX are committed to collaborating further to address the escalating Internet traffic demands. This includes enhancing connectivity by expanding interconnection sites, thereby contributing to the continued advancement of the Internet and bolstering its reliability as a critical social infrastructure.
