    • T-Mobile wins the official telecom contract for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and Paralympics, deploying its 5G across over 110 locations and competition venues.
    • Services will cover staff comms, broadcast links, ticketing, AI solutions and satellite-assisted connectivity for fan and media engagement.

What happened: T-Mobile secures 5G role for LA 2028 Olympics

T-Mobile has been awarded the official telecommunications contract for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and Paralympics. The deal commits the carrier to deploy its 5G infrastructure across more than one hundred and ten locations in Southern California. This includes over forty competition venues, all staff communication channels, and vital broadcast-centre links.

The contract tasks T-Mobile with providing push-to-talk services for over fifteen thousand Olympic employees and securing high-speed, reliable connectivity between the main broadcast centre and every venue. Ticketing and point-of-sale systems will run over network slicing technology. The carrier also aims to deploy next-generation wireless tools including AI-powered data solutions and fan engagement platforms. For more remote or infrastructure-challenged zones, T-Mobile will leverage its SuperMobile satellite service to ensure coverage remains robust.

    Why it’s important

The Olympics are entering a new era of technological demand. As audiences expect real-time streaming, immersive experiences and seamless broadcast quality, infrastructure must deliver unprecedented speed, reliability and reach. T-Mobile’s contract signals confidence in its network maturity and capacity to support massive events.

Using network slicing allows dedicated bandwidth for critical functions such as broadcast, operations and ticketing. This ensures that neither live media coverage nor staff operations suffer slowdown under peak load. The inclusion of satellite connectivity via SuperMobile provides redundancy in remote areas—something increasingly vital for large-scale events. The role of AI-powered tools and data analytics promises operational efficiency, crowd insight and enhanced fan experience. From a strategic viewpoint, this is positive: it advances T-Mobile’s reputation, pushes innovation in public event infrastructure and raises expectations for telecom providers globally. The contract underscores how carriers that combine terrestrial 5G, AI, satellite services and robust network design are now indispensable in delivering major international events.
