    • New Quortex Switch-enabled service allows content providers to manage CDN switching without altering existing setups.

What happened: orange and Synamedia enable telecom multi-CDN service

Orange and Synamedia have announced a new partnership to launch a telecom-grade multi-CDN (content delivery network) strategy, showcased during IBC 2025. The collaboration pairs Orange’s CDN infrastructure with Synamedia’s Quortex Switch platform. It enables content providers to integrate multiple CDNs seamlessly. This is the first venture combining a telco CDN provider with a multi-CDN switching solution. Introduced in March 2025, the Quortex Switch offers API-based integration and advanced configuration features.

Content providers can expand distribution across regions, especially in the Middle East and Africa, without changing existing infrastructure. Viewers are routed dynamically based on quality of experience metrics. Mid-stream switching ensures uninterrupted streaming.

    Why it’s important

This strategic move aligns with the rapid growth projected for Africa’s streaming market, which is expected to expand by 50 % by 2030. Orange’s extensive CDN network in the Middle East and Africa, combined with Synamedia’s multi-CDN management, offers content providers enhanced reach, lower latency, and compliance with local regulations. Cédric Hardouin, Vice-President of CDN and Edge at Orange Wholesale, explains that the alliance “showcases how any CDN customer can now easily benefit from Orange’s strengths, particularly across the Middle East and Africa, to create an ecosystem with Synamedia’s multi-CDN management system.” Ed Allfrey, General Manager of Video Network at Synamedia, adds that the partnership “extends the reach of reliable, scalable CDNs to emerging markets thanks to Orange’s CDN proof of performance in the Middle East and Africa.”

While implementation challenges remain—such as integrating smaller content providers and securing regulatory clearances—the benefits are compelling. The solution optimises traffic routing, reduces waste from underused CDN endpoints, and improves cost efficiency. It also supports disaster recovery: with multiple CDNs accessible mid-stream, interruptions are minimised.

Overall, this collaboration sets a new standard for scalable, high-quality streaming in underserved regions. By combining telco capacity with advanced switching software, Orange and Synamedia provide content providers with an effective roadmap for global content delivery in emerging markets.
