Digital Realty expands Lagos footprint with third data centre

    • New site LKK2 adds nearly 2MW of IT capacity in Lekki
    • Facility integrates with subsea cables and Digital Realty’s ServiceFabric platform

What happened: Lagos site LKK2 boosts capacity and global connectivity

Digital Realty has opened its third data centre in Lagos, Nigeria, expanding its presence in West Africa. The new site, called LKK2, is in Lekki and delivers almost 2MW of IT capacity across 13,000 square feet of data hall space. It is scheduled to go live later this year.

LKK2 connects directly to the company’s first Lagos facility, LKK1, which hosts the 2Africa subsea cable. That system links more than 46 landing points across Africa, Europe, the Middle East and Asia, giving customers faster access to global networks.

The site also integrates with ServiceFabric, Digital Realty’s interconnection platform. This links clients to LOS1, West Africa’s top internet peering point, and LOS2, the company’s Victoria Island site. Together, the three facilities provide scale, redundancy and resilience for enterprises and hyperscale operators. Nigeria managing director Ike Nnamani called the launch “a significant milestone” in Digital Realty’s goal of enabling Africa’s digital transformation.

    Why it’s important

Nigeria is one of Africa’s fastest-growing digital economies, fuelled by fintech, ecommerce and rising cloud adoption. Reliable, carrier-neutral data centres help local firms and global enterprises scale while supporting the country’s digital future.

Direct links to subsea cables such as 2Africa improve application performance and user experience. They also lower barriers for companies expanding across Africa. By strengthening this connectivity, Lagos is becoming a central hub for data traffic in West Africa.

Digital Realty recently ranked first in Africa on Cloudscene’s Data Centre Ecosystem Leaderboard, highlighting its influence in the region.

The Lekki site also aims to drive regional development by attracting investment and giving local businesses room to grow. With the addition of LKK2, Digital Realty is building infrastructure designed for both current needs and future demand.
