    • Lumen enhances network across 16 metro areas with up to 400Gbps speed.
    • New infrastructure provides on-demand bandwidth for AI workloads and cloud integration.

What happened: Lumen upgrades US network for AI and cloud services

Lumen Technologies has unveiled a significant upgrade to its network infrastructure in the US. The company has expanded its data centre services to offer connectivity speeds of up to 400Gbps across 70 third-party data centres in 16 major metro markets. This enhancement comes in response to the growing demand for AI-driven workloads and multi-cloud architectures.

The new offering includes scalable, flexible services such as Ethernet On-Demand and Internet On-Demand, allowing businesses to adjust their bandwidth requirements in real-time. With this, Lumen is empowering enterprises to manage AI and data-heavy applications more efficiently, while controlling costs. Customers will only pay for the bandwidth they use, ensuring flexibility and cost efficiency.

    Why it’s important

As artificial intelligence becomes central to business operations, the need for high-speed, low-latency networks has surged. Lumen’s upgrade is designed to provide the infrastructure that supports these high demands. The expansion facilitates seamless integration of AI workloads with multi-cloud environments, helping enterprises scale more easily.

Key metro markets benefiting from this upgrade include Northern Virginia, New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago. These areas are critical hubs for AI innovation and digital transformation. With a network designed to offer less than 5 milliseconds of latency, Lumen is positioning itself as a key player in meeting the performance requirements of modern enterprises.

Lumen’s ongoing investment in its fibre network underscores its commitment to supporting businesses navigating the AI boom. According to Ghassan Abdo from IDC, this expansion supports the AI-first economy, ensuring that businesses can rely on Lumen’s high-performance infrastructure as they scale.
