Linx boosts Riyadh IXP with faster ports

    • Linx increases 100 GE port availability and enables 400 GE connectivity at the centre’s Remal location to meet growing demand.
    • The upgrade aligns with Saudi Vision 2030 and supports Riyadh’s rise as a regional digital hub.

What happened: Linx expands capacity in Riyadh

Linx, the London Internet Exchange, has installed key upgrades at the centre3 Internet Exchange Point in Riyadh’s Remal data facility. The work expands the number of available 100 GE ports and introduces support for 400 GE links to serve growing customer demand. Halil Kama, Linx’s regional director, explains that demand for faster and more reliable connectivity in Saudi Arabia is rising and these improvements keep the Riyadh IXP at the leading edge of regional interconnection. The centre3 exchange has quickly established itself as vital to the digital infrastructure of Saudi Arabia since launching in 2024.

    Why it’s important

This upgrade matters because it strengthens Riyadh’s role as a digital crossroads for network operators, content platforms and enterprises. It also serves as a building block in Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 digital transformation strategy, which emphasises AI development, smart city deployment and cloud services. By enabling 400 GE connectivity Linx is allowing networks to scale in pace with regional growth so they can deliver better performance. Riyadh’s low‑latency interconnection benefits local users and global players alike. It follows Linx’s earlier work in Jeddah, where a 100 GE upgrade addressed traffic surges and improved resilience. Taken together, these projects reflect a growing trend in the region towards robust, future-proof digital infrastructure. The investment points to credible network planning rather than marketing. It shows Linx and its partners are responding to real pressure for capacity so that Saudi networks stay agile. The upgrades may also attract AI and cloud firms seeking reliable, high-speed access in the Middle East.
