    • Hurricane Electric has launched its fifth Point of Presence (PoP) in Toronto, expanding its network in Canada.
    • The PoP provides high-speed connectivity with over 40,000 BGP sessions and global peering options.

What happened: Hurricane Electric launches new PoP in Toronto

Hurricane Electric, a global IPv6-native internet service provider, has launched a new Point of Presence (PoP) at the Coloware YTZ-1 data centre in Toronto. This is the company’s fifth PoP in Toronto and its 20th in Canada. The YTZ-1 facility holds Tier III+ certification and features robust power backup, advanced cooling systems, round-the-clock security monitoring, and early smoke detection capabilities. It also offers secure cabinet solutions, private space options, and direct fibre optic connections.

The PoP allows local customers to connect to Hurricane Electric’s dual-stack IPv4 and IPv6 networks through 100GE, 10GE, and GigE port configurations. This implementation enhances network reliability, optimizes traffic distribution, and minimizes congestion for businesses operating in the region.

    Why it’s important

This network expansion strengthens Hurricane Electric’s capacity to deliver high-speed internet services to businesses throughout Ontario. The PoP delivers faster, more stable connectivity solutions addressing the region’s increasing demand for resilient network infrastructure. It also facilitates improved access to the company’s global network infrastructure which includes over 40,000 BGP sessions and connections to 10,000 networks worldwide. Additionally, the PoP interconnects with 310 internet exchange points and provides extensive peering port options enhancing performance metrics and reducing latency for international data transmissions.

Mike Leber, president of Hurricane Electric, stated that the new PoP will provide critical connectivity infrastructure and enhance access to global markets for Toronto-based businesses. This launch reinforces Hurricane Electric’s market position in Canada.
