SpeedNet Angola extends broadband access to rural communities

    • SpeedNet is boosting access in Luanda’s suburban and peri-urban communities.
    • The Angolan ISP is combining fibre and wireless technologies to bridge the digital divide.

    SpeedNet Angola drives connectivity growth

SpeedNet Angola, a local internet service provider, is extending high-speed connectivity to underserved areas around Luanda. The company is deploying both fibre-optic and fixed wireless technologies to reach suburban and peri-urban communities where infrastructure has lagged.
This expansion aligns with Angola’s broader push to improve digital access, with government and private sector initiatives seeking to raise internet penetration rates, which remain below the African average. Reliable connectivity is increasingly seen as essential for economic growth, education, and access to digital services.

    Addressing Angola’s connectivity challenges

Angola’s telecoms sector faces persistent hurdles, including high infrastructure costs, uneven network coverage, and limited affordability for low-income households. SpeedNet’s hybrid approach allows faster rollouts in difficult-to-reach areas while maintaining high capacity where fibre is viable.
The company’s work reflects a growing trend in Africa’s broadband market, where operators blend technologies to expand reach. Industry innovations such as low-Earth orbit satellite internet and 5G fixed wireless are also emerging as complementary solutions. By improving access outside central Luanda, SpeedNet is helping close Angola’s digital divide, supporting both social and economic inclusion.
