Wavex ISP strengthens DNS and resilience in Kenya

    • Wavex offers fast, reliable fibre‑optic and wireless packages in six counties, backed by in‑house installation and real‑time support
    • Collaboration with Quad9 and strong peering reach reflect industry innovation and growing resilience in regional networks

Wavex Internet Service Provider LTD welcomes Quad9 for stronger DNS infrastructure

Wavex Internet Service Provider LTD, operating under ASN 328977 and based in Nanyuki, Kenya, positions itself as a rapidly evolving regional ISP. Hosting both IPv4 and IPv6 networks, Wavex peers with more than 118 networks and counts SEACOM and Hurricane Electric among its upstream providers. On its website, the company emphasises fast and reliable broadband delivered by its in‑house accredited installers and real-time support teams.

In May 2025, Wavex formed a strategic alliance with Quad9, becoming the official regional infrastructure sponsor and deploying Quad9 DNS nodes at Nairobi and Mombasa Internet Exchange Points (KIXP, LINX, ASTEROID). This move quenches key challenges in the ISP industry, offering faster DNS resolution, enhanced resilience, and reduced reliance on external DNS traffic.

Wavex ISP is winning in Kenya’s digital infrastructure market

Kenyan internet still suffers from patchy coverage, slow speeds in less served towns, and concerns over data control. Wavex meets these issues head‑on with its own ASN, robust peering arrangements and hybrid fibre‑wireless rollouts beyond urban centres. Its decision to host Quad9 DNS locally reflects a regional trend: ISPs integrating cybersecurity and sovereignty measures into core services.

Local DNS infrastructure not only lowers latency but also blocks malware and phishing threats—Quad9’s DNS filters known malicious domains in real time without logging user data. For Kenyan users and small enterprises, this means a safer and more stable internet experience. As more providers in Africa adopt community‑driven peering and open DNS initiatives, Wavex stands out by actively contributing infrastructure rather than simply consuming it.
