    • VodafoneThree will deliver 4G and 5G coverage for Sizewell C, supporting construction safety, logistics, and digital operations.
    • The project reflects how telecom-energy partnerships are shaping the future of smart infrastructure in the UK.

What happened: VodafoneThree delivers 5G at Sizewell C construction site

VodafoneThree have secured a major connectivity contract for the Sizewell C nuclear power station site in Suffolk, UK. As part of a long-term partnership, both operators will deliver 4G and 5G mobile coverage across the 3,200-acre construction zone, providing critical voice and data services to workers and contractors.

The network will be essential for coordinating logistics, ensuring site safety, and enabling real-time communication across a highly regulated and complex development environment. Installation work is set to begin shortly, with coverage planned for rollout in phases as construction advances. The contract represents a multi-year commitment aligning with the station’s timeline, with the potential to expand services as the site transitions from construction to operation.

Sizewell C is one of the UK’s flagship energy infrastructure projects, and the telecoms partnership signals a strong step forward in integrating digital readiness into critical national developments.

    Why it’s important

The deployment of high-speed mobile connectivity at Sizewell C underscores the essential role telecom infrastructure now plays in complex, next-generation energy projects. With over 9,000 workers expected on-site during peak construction, VodafoneThree’s 4G and 5G networks will support not only logistics and coordination, but also health and safety systems, digital tracking, and environmental monitoring.

This partnership reflects a broader shift in infrastructure design—where real-time connectivity is embedded from the outset to enable IoT, AI-driven oversight, and predictive maintenance. As a major nuclear development, Sizewell C offers a glimpse into the future of telecom-energy collaboration, demonstrating how integrated networks can deliver both operational efficiency and national energy resilience.
