  • The project will enhance local infrastructure, create jobs, and support the growing demands of the digital economy.

What happened: EdgeCore’s $17 billion investment in Virginia data centre

EdgeCore, a prominent wholesale data centre developer, has acquired 697 acres in the Shannon Hill Regional Business Park, Louisa County, Virginia, for over $17 billion. This significant investment aims to establish a high-density data centre campus spanning 3.9 million square feet, with a power capacity exceeding 1.1 gigawatts. Lee Kestler, CEO of EdgeCore, emphasised the strategic choice of Louisa County to expand their footprint in Central Virginia.

This development not only caters to the needs of hyperscale and AI-focused customers but also promises to generate substantial tax revenue and job opportunities for the local community. Governor Glenn Youngkin has expressed strong support for the project, highlighting Virginia’s crucial role in the global digital economy. The project will also feature sustainable infrastructure, including an efficient air-cooled system to minimise water usage.
