Global experts gather in Brighton for TNC25

TNC25, the world’s leading research and education networking conference, officially opened its doors in Brighton on 9 June 2025. With the theme “Brighter Together”, this year’s event has brought together more than 800 participants from over 70 countries. Hosted by Jisc, the UK’s National Research and Education Network (NREN), the conference sets the stage for critical discussions in digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, and cross-border partnerships. The week-long programme includes 18 parallel sessions, 55 talks, four plenaries, and a series of lightning talks. The Exchange hub—complete with booths, lounges, and the Exchange Theatre—serves as the centre of creativity and interaction. “This vibrant city mirrors TNC’s goal to dismantle boundaries and foster cross-disciplinary dialogue,” organisers noted. TNC25’s diverse line-up positions it as an incubator for global collaboration, promising insights that will shape the future of educational connectivity.

Side meetings and emerging talent initiatives shine

The conference bookends its core sessions with Side Meetings at the Leonardo Royal Hotel Brighton Waterfront, tackling pressing topics such as EdTech advancement, cybersecurity governance, and marketing strategy. A major highlight is the Emerging NREN Programme by GÉANT, which supports integration and capacity-building for research networks in developing regions. In parallel, the Future Talent Programme (FTP) invites young professionals to hone their communication skills and present ideas through the Lightning Talk Challenge. These initiatives exemplify the conference’s commitment to inclusivity and professional development. As a delegate from GÉANT shared: “It is through this community collaboration that we all lead the way for a more inclusive future for research and education.” This blend of thought leadership and talent cultivation ensures that TNC25 resonates beyond institutional silos, helping foster a shared global vision.

Jisc leads with infrastructure and innovation

As the host of TNC25, Jisc underscores its role in supporting the UK’s digital education and research infrastructure. Managing the Janet Network—securely linking over 18 million users—Jisc exemplifies how robust technology systems can facilitate academic excellence. “We believe that education and research improve lives, and technology amplifies that impact,” said a Jisc spokesperson. Delegates also enjoy novel features such as the Exchange Theatre’s silent disco-style presentations and the TNC25 podcast series for deeper engagement. Throughout the week, the focus remains clear: future-proofing global networks through cooperation, innovation, and resilience. This year’s edition has not only highlighted technical achievements but also sparked new conversations about the ethical and inclusive use of emerging technologies in academia. In doing so, TNC25 affirms its place as a cornerstone in shaping the next chapter of research and education networking.
