    Eastern Communications: Bridging the digital divide with High-Tech

    Eastern Communications: A legacy of innovation

    Founded in 1878, Eastern Telecommunications Philippines, Inc. (ETPI), now known as Eastern Communications, holds the distinction of being the country’s first telecommunications company . Today, it operates as a subsidiary of Vega Telecom, jointly owned by PLDT and Globe Telecom. Eastern Communications has been instrumental in enhancing the Philippines’ digital infrastructure.

    A notable achievement is its participation in the Philippine Domestic Submarine Cable Network (PDSCN), a 2,500 km project developed in collaboration with Globe Telecom and InfiniVAN. This initiative aims to provide reliable connectivity to underserved regions, with 80% of the cables laid underwater to minimise disruptions .

    In recognition of its efforts, Eastern received the “Infrastructure Initiative of the Year – Philippines” award at the Asian Telecom Awards 2025 . Additionally, its cloud platform, Eastern Cloud, powered by CloudSigma, earned the “Cloud Initiative of the Year – Philippines” award, highlighting its role in offering scalable and cost-effective cloud solutions.

    Enhancing cybersecurity amid rising threats

    With the surge in cyber threats, Eastern Communications has prioritised cybersecurity. Its DDoS-Protected Internet Direct Service (IDS) offers dedicated, high-speed internet with robust protection against distributed denial-of-service attacks, ensuring uninterrupted business operations.T

    o further educate businesses, Eastern launched the “Thoughts on Tech” podcast series during Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2024, featuring insights from industry experts and government officials on safeguarding against cyber threats.

    Eastern Communications continues to extend its services to emerging business hubs, including Cotabato City, General Santos City, and Dipolog City, as part of its 2025 expansion plan . Through initiatives like “Access Eastern,” the company conducts ICT enablement sessions across various regions, aiming to bridge the digital divide and promote digital literacy.As the Philippines advances towards a more connected future, Eastern Communications remains a pivotal player.
