What happened: Zain Jordan begins Cloud-Native BSS upgrade with Ericsson

Zain Jordan has teamed up with Ericsson to launch a major transformation of its Business Support Systems (BSS), shifting to a cloud-native model. This overhaul aims to boost digital service delivery, improve customer interactions, and increase operational agility. The project marks another milestone in a partnership that has lasted for more than a decade.

Under this transformation, Ericsson will upgrade and expand its existing implementation of Ericsson Charging at Zain Jordan, enabling more flexible and efficient service operations. The new solution will be hosted on the Ericsson Cloud Native Infrastructure, allowing the telecom operator to adopt a catalogue-based business model and offer tailored services to prepaid customers.

This investment reflects Zain Jordan’s broader efforts to stay competitive in a rapidly evolving telecom sector. By modernising its infrastructure, the company aims to keep pace with rising customer expectations and technology shifts, especially as demand for faster and more reliable digital services continues to grow across Jordan.

    Why it is important

This initiative is more than just a technical upgrade—it’s a key enabler of Zain Jordan’s long-term digital transformation. The new cloud-native architecture reduces complexity, lowers operational costs, and allows faster rollout of new services. These capabilities will help Zain Jordan stay agile in a market where innovation and speed are critical.

With support from Ericsson’s monetisation and core commerce solutions, Zain Jordan can now design and launch personalised offers more efficiently. This customer-centric approach gives the operator a strategic edge, particularly in prepaid markets where flexibility and speed are vital. It also positions Zain Jordan to fully capitalise on upcoming 5G services and emerging digital trends.

More broadly, the partnership supports Jordan’s national goals for digital growth. A modern telecom infrastructure is essential for attracting investment, enabling smart services, and boosting the digital economy. As Jordan seeks to expand its role in the regional ICT space, initiatives like this one set the foundation for sustainable innovation and economic advancement.
