RouteViews began in 1995 as a practical way for network operators to inspect how their routes appeared from outside their own organisations. Three decades later, the University of Oregon-hosted project operates a globally distributed BGP collection, archive and access platform whose value lies not in carrying traffic or commanding routes, but in preserving policy-filtered views of a control plane that no single operator can see in full.
Zakir Durumeric’s work connects high-speed internet scanning, empirical security research, open-source measurement tools and the commercial asset-intelligence platform Censys. His influence does not come from controlling the hosts his systems observe or deciding how organisations secure them.
