Matadi Gateway Terminal and operations
International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) manages Matadi Gateway Terminal (MGT) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The terminal is located on the Congo River in Matadi. It serves as the primary container and general cargo facility for the country’s capital, Kinshasa. ICTSI DR Congo SA is the local subsidiary operating the site. MGT began commercial operations in 2016. It is a joint venture between ICTSI, the Ledya Group, and SCTP, a state-owned company. The terminal covers a quay length of 350 metres and has two mobile harbour cranes. It also includes a yard with over 3,500 ground slots for containers. The facility handles vessels of up to 2,500 TEU capacity.
ICTSI invested in modern equipment and systems for efficient cargo handling. The terminal provides landside connections to Kinshasa via road. It is also linked to river barges serving inland ports. MGT operates with a goal to reduce logistics costs in the country. The terminal plays a key role in facilitating trade in Central Africa. It is part of ICTSI’s global network of terminals.
