What happened: Former Zayo executive to lead Vocus as it targets growth in enterprise and fibre networks
Vocus has chosen Andrés Irlando to be its new CEO. He used to work at Zayo Group and also spent time at Verizon. At Zayo, he led the enterprise division and helped manage fibre and cloud services across the US. He joined Zayo in 2020 and worked on building fibre networks and improving services for business customers. Vocus is a large network company in Australia and New Zealand. It owns over 25,000 kilometres of fibre and supports government, wholesale, and enterprise clients. The company is backed by Macquarie Asset Management and Aware Super. Irlando said he was happy to join Vocus and said the company is ready to grow more. He replaces Ellie Sweeney, who left after about one year as CEO.

Why this is important
Irlando’s move to Vocus shows the company wants to grow stronger in the enterprise telecom sector. He brings experience from the US where he helped expand fibre networks and worked with cloud systems. This is important for Vocus now because Australia’s telecom market is growing fast. There are more people using cloud services and AI tools, and there is also more demand for strong and secure networks. The Australian government is putting money into better broadband and digital services, and private companies are also building new cables and data routes. Vocus is part of this trend. It is working on projects like the Darwin-Jakarta-Singapore Cable and the Coral Sea Cable. These connect Australia to Asia and the Pacific and are important for trade and internet access. Irlando has seen this kind of work before. At Zayo, he led similar projects, so Vocus may use his experience to build faster and larger networks. Other companies like Telstra and TPG Telecom are also building infrastructure, and big cloud firms are setting up in Australia too. Vocus needs strong leadership to stay in the game, and Irlando may help it compete better.
