What happened: Discuss PTI 2025–2030 draft strategic plan
The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) is hosting a public webinar on January 14, 2025, at 16:00 UTC to discuss its strategic plan for 2025–2030. This session will focus on IANA’s proposed strategic objectives for the Public Technical Identifiers (PTI), which oversees the secure and accountable management of the Internet’s unique identifier systems, such as domain names and IP addresses. The webinar invites community members to review the draft plan, share feedback, and ask questions.
Participants will also have the opportunity to provide additional input through a Public Comment proceeding. Once the community feedback is gathered, the PTI Board will submit the final strategic plan to the ICANN Board for approval. PTI will then evaluate the plan annually, reporting its performance to the PTI Board. A recording of the webinar will be made available after the event on the Strategic Plan community workspace for those unable to attend.

Why it is important
The IANA 2025–2030 strategic plan is a pivotal component in shaping the future of global Internet governance and infrastructure. IANA, managed by PTI (Public Technical Identifiers), plays an essential role in ensuring the stability, security, and proper functioning of key Internet systems such as the Domain Name System (DNS) and IP address allocation. As the Internet evolves, the strategic objectives set by IANA for the coming years will have a direct impact on the continued reliability of the global Internet ecosystem.
This webinar, along with the community feedback process, offers an important opportunity for stakeholders—including governments, businesses, technical experts, and end users—to influence the future of Internet management and governance. The feedback collected through this process will help ensure that the strategic plan is comprehensive, forward-thinking, and aligned with the needs of all involved parties.
Furthermore, the ongoing public comment period promotes transparency, accountability, and inclusivity, ensuring that the plan is shaped by a broad, diverse range of voices.
